Snoop Dogg Get Global Deal With MTV

Even while the details of his Interscope separation are being finalized, West Coast ambassador Snoop Dogg is moving forward on a unique partnership with MTV.

First up will be "Dogg After Dark," an MTV variety talk show with Snoop handling hosting duties.

The show takes place from the Kress nightclub, located on LA's Hollywood Boulevard.

In classic throwback Snoop style, the rapper will retain his very own house band, the Snoopadelics.

Additionally, the veteran crossover star will conduct A-list celebrity interviews and sketch comedy segments.

As part of the deal, MTV will assist in advertising Snoop's upcoming album, Malice In Wonderland, through the network's resources in "global distribution, marketing, and promotion."

Snoop's back catalogue will also be reintroduced to a new generation of video game fans, courtesy of MTV adding portions of his discography to their next edition of Rock Band.

When asked on how deal was formulated, Snoop explained it was a matter of recognizing the importance of cross-marketing in today's music climate.

"When [MTV President] Van Toffler and I sat down Boss to Boss, a global quintuple threat takeover was masterminded. As the world of entertainment keeps changing, we felt it was the right time to let Snoop Dogg back on MTV so we could continue to run things with music, movies, DVDs and bring Hip-Hop to Rock Band," Snoop Dogg told AllHipHop.com. "So screw your wigs on tight and tune in on Tuesday nights for the first step to the next level of Snoop D-O double G. 'Dogg After Dark' is the only nightclub TV show hosted by you know who. So take a journey with me through the mind, body, soul and musical mind state of the most prolific, authentic game spitter. And the sh*t is funny, so show me the money!"

MTV President Van Toffler echoed the rapper's sentiments, and elaborated on his view of Snoop Dogg being one of popular Hip-Hop artists ever with MTV audiences.

"Snoop has been a mainstay across MTV screens for over a decade by pushing the boundaries of Hip-Hop with his signature antics, incredible catalogue of music, legendary videos, larger than life personality and even a little controversy," Toffler explained to AllHipHop.com. "I can't even begin to imagine MTV, my tumultuous career and several raging ulcers without the Dogg being such a big part of our history. He is an undeniable international superstar whose talent and work transcend music, TV and film and we look forward to launching this new multidimensional partnership with the Doggfather."

"Dogg After Dark" premiers February 17 at 9Pm eastern time.

At press time, Snoop's 10th studio album, Malice In Wonderland, Is set to feature production from Dr. Dre, Pharrell, and Lalo Shifrin.

The LP is tentatively scheduled for release later this year.

There are some big names on this one like 50, Em, Scarface, & Talib, and underground favorites like D-Black & Heltah Skeltah return for this volume but a majority is all new names and he introduces his group Fortlive as well. It is straight hot! I have been listening to it while indulging in some 360 time and was amazed at how fresh it is. Stat Quo - At The Speed Of Need

There is one thing you can say about S-T-A-T is that dude is not planning on giving up anytime soon. His deal with Aftermath and Shady put at least his name on but produced no album after being there for quite some time. But the dude is free and has TWO, count them, ONE AND TWO mixtapes of hot ISH for your ears, The South Got Somethin' To Say and The Bailout. This interview is a little different than my previous ones so bare with me for this new set up, ENJOY!!!

Date: Nov 17th

Time: 3ish (Central Time)

X: Yo what up Stat its Xcalibur, I was calling to see if you were still on for the interview...

Rick (Stat's Manager): Yo man this is his manager Rick.

X: Oh word my bad man, is Stat around to do the interview?

Rick: Who is this??

X: (Pause) its Xcalibur man I hit Stat up on Myspace for a interview.

Rick: OH ok! (talks to Stat) yo man you wanna do it at 7pm?

X: Yeah that's cool.

Rick: Cool email me your info and we will do this at 7.

X: Word man. Peace.

So having set up one of my biggest interviews so far I made sure my questions were right and everything was all good on my end. I was off that day so I decided to hit the store to cook dinner for the family...this is where I slipped up. I got dinner all done for the fam and went to call Rick back.

X: Yo Rick, its Xcalibur man is Stat ready?

Rick: Hey I thought you wanted to do it at 7?

X: (Pause, stunned look) its 7 where I am, I thought I was on time...

Rick: We are a hour ahead of you bro...

X: (Embarrassed) Man I apologize thats my miss up man...

Rick: Did you still wanna do it? Did you email me the info?

X: Yes and yes.

Rick: Ok stay by the phone.

I waited about three minutes and my cell goes off. And I hear "What Up, Its Stat." Now for me this is big this guy is was connected to both Eminem and Dr. Dre!! This was a guy whos album I had been waiting for a good 3 years and he was on the other end of the phone ready to chop it up.

X: Man I totally spaced on the time man I know you wanted to do it at 7...I lost track of time and was taking care of the fam.

Stat: Its cool man. Do you need to call me back??

X: Naw I'm good. Lets jump into it... What took so long to bless us with the mixtape man??

Stat: I had to get out of my deal man. There were a whole lot of politics involved and I wanted to make sure I was out before I did more music.

X: So you are off Aftermath/Shady yeah?

Stat: Yep, took a year to get out.

Stat is as energetic and passionate on the phone as he is in his rhymes. And you could tell he loves this Hip-Hop game. But you can also see that he wasn't going to let label BS stop him from putting out music. "I'm focused man, now it is all about putting out music and giving the fans what they have been waiting for." Being a fan I was nervous and excited at the same time to hear him say that "If there is on thing I learned about being on Aftermath/Shady is that you have to have your timing right or you are done...Plies is the perfect example of that." I named check early DMX as an example too and he agreed.

We began to talk about him being on Aftermath/Shady for a bit he told me he had wrote the first part of the "Dear Summer" series while he was still in the deal. "I wrote the first Dear Summer when I was still signed, I wanted to put it out but the label thought that it wasn't a good idea, but I thought the fans deserved to know why my album was not being released and I have been off the radar." Dear Summer 1 & 2" He continues "Was meant to be a timeline to let my fans know what was going on with me and my situation." I asked him about Obie and Busta next:

X: Were you shocked at them leaving or being let go?

Stat: Yeah. Obie was a staple at Shady and was close to Em and him leaving was a big shock but at the same time I undersatnd because the music business is still a BUSINESS. And with Busta, I was surprised but saw it coming, again timing. His album took too long to come out and it killed his buzz...

X: The speed of need right?

Stat: Yep

X: Are you cool with everybody at Aftermath and Shady still?

Stat: Yeah man, I am still cool with everyone I was signed with.

While talking to him getting the music out to the public was the biggest concern. "I was able to keep all the music from my album Statlanta and it will appear on the mixtapes." When I asked who he worked with production wise he replied "No big names. I feel like there are a lot of dope people making beats and it is unfair to throw them away because they do not have a big name. These guys can be the next big thing but you will never know if you don't give them a shot." He continues, " I got two mixtape coming The Bailout and Quo-City, and the Bailout will be up the week of Thanksgiving and Little Brother is gonna be on there."

As we began to wrap it up I had to ask him one last thing:

X: What do you think of XXL Top 10 Freshmen?

Stat: To be honest I haven't heard some of them but I think , B.o.B and Corey Gunz are incredible. And I like Asther Roth I know him through his manager, Wale is good too.

We exchanged verbal daps and thank yous and we ended our interview. It seems to me that Stat's time is now and he is taking advantage of it as much as possible.

It is about time huh??

Kanye & Luda Pushed Up; Chamillionaire Preps New Album

OK for those of you who have been waiting for Kanye West's and Ludacris' new albums will be happy to hear that Def Jam has decided to push both of their albums up a day!! Excitement!! Alright as most may already know Kanye's 808s and Heartbreaks has been leaked already and the label decided to push up the album to maximize sales for the end of the fouth quater. But here is the trip...both Luda's Theater of the Mind and Kanye's 808s and Heartbreaks are COMING OUT ON THE SAME DAMN DAY!!!! WHAT?! Ok lets tone it down a little. The smartest move for Def Jam? Who knows, but I will say this. When Kanye's last album came out not only did it sell very well it also ushered in the G.I.T.D Era (Glow In The Dark). SO coming off of that monster tour fans are on the edge of their seats for this new Kanye concept album.

Same can be said for Luda. Dude has been busy doing movies and there has not been much music coming from him. But it will be interesting to hear what he has been up to. He beat T.I. for best rap album last year...but will he do it again seeing how T.I.'s newest album Paper Trail is almost a straight masterpiece?? We shall see but both Luda and Ye has loyal fanbases and most of which are going to pick up both albums anyway. AND lets not forget the have a young ACE up their sleeve. Ace Hood's album Gutta hits November 18th so Def Jams fourth quater wrap up is soild.

And Chamillionaire did annouce he was working on his new album Venom and a new Mixtape Messiah joint and it will be uber nice to hear from him again

Vice President of Def Jam Shakir Stewart Found Dead Saturday

Man truly a sad day for Def Jam and Hip-Hop as a well. Shakir Stewart was the VP that replaced Jay-Z and was awesome at what he did. Before that he was working A&R for them and spearheaded the signing of amazing southern artist. The two he is most known for are Young Jeezy and Rick Ross. The report says they found him dead in his apartment from a gunshot wound to the head, so it is being reported as a suicide. Even though I did not know him personally I did follow his work and was expecting great things at Def Jam. He is a visionary that will be missed. Check the full story:

I started rappin' seriously while in college on a b-ball scholarship...My sis (Miss Criss) had started working with a dude name Kanye West and I was over there freestyling one day and he thought I was dope and gave me a beat tape. We did some great music that got circulated and into the hands of Cash Money CEO Baby who flew Kanye down to N.O. to sign everyone. Out of everyone they liked me the most and when Ye decided to go to the Roc, I ended up staying in N.O. and signing with them. They tried to rape me (business wise) and I bounced. Got back to Chi, reunited with Ye's mentor, NO ID and we started grindin'. That got JD's attention, who just got the President spot Virgin and I signed over there. Just when we were about to shoot my 1st video, he left Virgin and I had to get out of that deal which I finally did. Now, here I am....

X: Word. SO Uncrowned King just came out, how do you feel about it?

M:I feel its dope...a classic mixtape...Its got the internet goin' nuts right now.

X: The joint is tra-hot man!! Who is was on the mixtape production wise?

M: No ID, Kanye, SC, All Day Miller, and a few others.

X:I know NO I.D. did a couple of joints man. How long have you been working with him?

M:He was tryin' to manage me before I went to CMR and we've always had a great friendship so the music comes naturally. We been grindin' together hard since about 2004.

X: You are a street dude man, but you are also politically minded, and you can hear it on songs like Liquor Store, & What Makes A Man. Where does that come from?

M: Just my upbringing...Chicago....my way of life... Chi is the political center of black America. Jesse lives here...Farrakhan lives here...Ali lives here...Obama lives here...the list goes on. Plus, educated. I got a Master's Degree. When you mix that with the fact that I'm addicted to Studying the Bible and History and add that with where I from and what I've been through and seen: from Gang Bangin and losing close friends, to dealing with drug abuse in my family, to having family that dealt drugs, etc. I am a reflection of all that and my music represents that well-roundedness.

X: Even though Uncrowned King was a mixtape did you take an album approach to it?

M:To a certain extent, but not whole-heartedly. I just made sure it represented my well-roundedness.

X: So lets go back a little ways man. You were signed to Cash Money a couple years back, what was the situation over there like? You seemed like you were gonna re-energize the label after your verse on "Undisputed."

M:Its was HELL...but I built some great friendships and relationships during my time there. I got a chance to walk around on a daily basis with CEO's of a major record label so it was a definite learning experience. Yea, It seemed like after "Undisputed" that I would take off, but that wasn't in Slim and Baby's plan. Baby wanted to be a rapper and a star himself. I know 1 thing, I would never again sign with a CEO that wants to be an artist himself.

X: How did you rebound from the label situation??

M:Basically, by leaving, getting out of that situation and getting together with NO ID and doing the music that represented me to the core. Getting a chance to say what I felt instead of having the pressure to make certain kinds of records.

X: The first time I had heard from you since then was on Rhymefest's joint "Chicago-Rillas" with you and Bump J. In the song you had the line "We don't need no bird call bitch we been fly, and when don't kiss another man in the mouth we GANGSTA, but we will run up in our house and stain ya!" was that a shot at Cash Money??

M: To a certain extent, I was just venting. Saying what was on my heart in that moment. It was a shot a Baby though, not Wayne...Wayne is a good dude and I support him 100%.

X: Also in the song you talked about working with Kanye before anyone else. What is your relationship with him now?

M: When I see him we're cool. I reach out occasionally, but we don't talk often at all. He's busy being the #1 artist in the world right now and I support him in everything because it was his belief in me that made me take rap serious in the 1st place. We are not close like we used to be and I miss those days. When his mom passed, it hurt...My dad passed around the same time so it was a rough time for me.

X: Now I think you where on the label around the same time as TQ and you have the song "Neva Gon Stop" with him on Uncrowned King. Did you guys remain cool even after the situation within the label?

M: Yea. TQ's one of my best friends and we were like brothers on the road. Me, him, and his road manager Big Q jammed real heavy. We will always support each other.

X: OK so back to the Chi man. There are so many dope cats that are from there and coming out of there. Who are you tight with??

M: Everybody. From the grimiest in Bump, Sly, Marvo and Count, to the Cool Kids, Mic Terror, Kidz in the Hall, to Mano and Hollywood. Im one of the few artists that bridge the gap and have fan bases on both sides. Plus, all the established artists like Rhymefest, Lupe (Chilly is like a big brother), Twon Gabz, Mick Luter, Mush Millions etc. I am Chicago.

X: Is there anyone from the Chi we should be looking for in the near future?

M: Everybody I just named, plus more. Chi is killin' it right now.

X: Has there been any more majors that have been trying to holler at you? if so who?

M: Yes a few, but I rather not say because It could affect the business.

X: Let's talk about the album a little bit. What can you tell us about it at this point? like collabos, production etc. And when should we expect it?

M: Production is handled by No ID and whomever No ID lets on the album. I just did a crazy joint with Traxster. Prolyfic, 1120, SC, Boogz, B. Miller are all producers I fux with heavy. I do wanna work with Mannie again and also my buddy Polow.

X: Who is on your list of dream collabos man??

M: Nas, Cube, Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, Eminem, Jill Scott, Kanye, and Twista.

X: Let's switch to something that is mad serious for this year man. The upcoming election. What are your thoughts on it man? From Obama to McCain and Joe Biden to Sarah Palin...

M: I'm rockin' with Obama... McCain doesn't get it... anyone who could think that you could be a millionaire and still be middle class is living in another world than the one I live in. Palin is a sick ploy to pander to the disgruntled Clinton supporters... If I was a Clinton supporter I would be offended because she's no Hillary Clinton, by a long shot. I liked what Biden brings to the Obama camp as well. Still, with the Obama victory, black people in America face some hurdles that I don't think they see coming. Case and point: An Obama victory will signify an end to affirmative action as we know it. White America will no longer accept the uneven playing field argument and will start to reject the notion that minorities have glass ceilings and require special set-asides, quotas and the like. The problem is that even if America elects a black president, the inequities will still be there. The disparities in school funding leave minorities getting a far less quality of education than their more wealthy counter parts and as we know, education is the key factor in poverty, crime, etc. So I fear that if we as a people don't start solving all of our real problems from the inside out that we will have a black president who is a great symbol of hope and inspiration but that our people will be suffering with less governmental assistance because whites will say hey, "You can't play the race card now and say that its unequal...LOOK at the president!"

X: And who are you voting for fam?

M: Still, You gotta support OBAMA. His policies are far more economically sound and when you have the power to inspire and galvanize like his machine does, there is nothing that can't be accomplished and CHANGED.

X:OK I gotta ask this too man. Its football season...who are you rolling with??

M: The Bears of course and the Eagles, McNabb is a my homey from the Chi.

X: What about basketball man? The new season will be here soon..

M: Basketball is my sport. That's how I got to college I actually tried out for the Knicks and the Hawks personnel and made the Atlanta Trojans of the USBL they had players like Raja Bell and Darrell Armstrong in previous seasons. I had a chance to play overseas that I turned down as well cause I was already workin' with Ye' at the time.

As far as the NBA, I hate the Bulls Management so I've stopped rooting for them. My favorite team is the Golden State Warrior, but they traded my favorite player in Baron Davis. If I had to pick the Championship this year, I think it'll come down to Boston and LA again, but Portland, Miami, Houston, SA, and Philly will be strong. I'm gonna root for the Clips too.

Damn....My CD Game Might Turn Into SlotMusic Game??

Well for anyone that knows me they know I LOVE to buy CDs!! There i nothing like CD or ever Record (LP) quality music, there are digital formats that come close....but not really. Well soon we might be buying "SlotMusic" cards instead of CDs!!! Huh?!? WHAAAAT?!?! Well in turns out that SanDisk, the company that makes slot card memory for your PSP, Wii, Digi Cam, etc, has struck a deal with the Big Four Music companies (Universal, EMI, Warner Bros. , & Sony) to start doing "SlotMusic." Basically you will be paying the same price (around $15) for a digital version of your album (MP3) and they will be without digi-locks and come with and adaptor so you can plug it into your USB on your PC or MAC and download it. It is also said to be used in select MP3 devices with slot memory, that includes your PSP dunnies and dunnets. Rihanna, Chris Brown, Usher and Akon among other artist will be the first to have albums released under this format. Check the Story:

Hip-Hop Titans Kanye and Dr. Dre (Sorta) Talk Albums

Yo so Kanye and Dr. Dre have to easily be the monsters of what we call Hip-Hop production with Kanye well on a roll to be the next, well DR.DRE!!! That's what I think and we can debate that shit later. Kanye's new album, 808's and Heartbreaks, had an original date of December 16, but later that date was shattered and the date was TBA. But today Kayne posted on his blog that December 16 WAS the date and he is having it pushed up to November-something according to his blog. He said he wanted to push up the date because the album is done and well, he just felt like it!! That 'Ye for you folks lol. And in classic Dre fashion he put out another version of "Love Lockdown" because he felt he could do it better then he already did it. And on the corky end of things Kayne is developing a "Muppets" like show for Comedy Central. Can't Wait!!

Dr. Dre on the other hand his not been speaking about Detox, more like Bishop Lamont has been talking about Detox. He said the album is done and has to be turned in SOON. The expected date is in December and a single by maybe November. Bishop Lamont also said something a little interesting, he made a mention of everybody on Aftermath getting dropped except for him and Marsha Ambrosus of Floetry fame.

Busta Rhymes Leaves Aftermath Signs to Motown/Universal

Ok so the post I made a few months ago about Busta being dropped....well it happened, sort of. Busta announced Monday (Sep. 22) that he had cut ties with Aftermath/Interscope and had signed to Motown Universal. So what happened to Blessed? That album was suppose to be the album Busta fan have been waiting for since Genesis or The Big Bang depending on who you talk to. While it is still unclear rather he was dropped or asked to be let go, we will have to wait until December to get Busta's next offering. I don't know if he was able to take Blessed with him to Universal because in an interview he stated that the new album coming out in December would be titled B.O.M.B (Back On My Bulls**t), which was actually the original title, so hey I guess he is back on his BS. Busta did say him and Dr. Dre were still cool and he thanked Jimmy Iovine for putting up the money for two video singles.

This leaves another question open...is Interscope FINALLY fed up with the way things are being run at Aftermath/Shady/G-Unit? That may very well be the case. Dr.Dre has been promising them (and everyone else) an album for the last eight years, Eminem has been on a "vacation" and is just now deciding to come back and do an album, and 50 is out doing movies. All of the people they have signed to those camps have not been making any noise (or money) for the label. 50 dropped most of G-Unit already and the Rumors for Lloyd Banks and Def Jam don't help. Both Dre and Em have people signed that have been waiting in the wings. Stat Quo was suppose to drop an album like three or four years ago, Cashis and Bobby Creekwater have been more than silent, and the only one looking promising (for the moment) is Bishop Lamont, who might be the only one Interscope keeps!! But I don't know for sure just yet....

TRV$ DJ-AM Update

SO both Travis Barker and DJ AM are doing fine and recovering well from the burns the suffered last week in the tragic plane crash. Both Jermaine Dupri and DJ Steve Aoki have visited AM and Travis to check on their progress. According to an interview in US magazine JD said he was glad Travis and AM were doing well but the whole situation in general was sad. Doctors are still saying that both Travis and AM will have to stay at the Augusta, GA hospital the are currently at for a few more weeks, but are expected to make a full recovery.

I will keep you updated on any further happening in this situation, but in the mean time pray for Travis and AM and the families of the deceased.

TRV$DJ-AM In Plane Accident & FIX YOUR FACE!!!

Well my friend The CON wake me up this morning to same news that i was not too happy about. Most of you are familiar with Travis Barker (Former Blink-182 drummer, drummer for +44, and 1/3 of the group Expen$ive Ta$te with Paul Wall and Skinhead Rob) and DJ AM (Celeberity DJ), they performed as the house band at the MTV VMA's this year. Besides my issues with the award show, TRV$DJ-AM were one of the highlights of the event. It seems after a performence in Colombia, SC on Friday on a flight back to CA The plane went off the runway, through a fence and crashed into a road. Travis Barker and DJ AM were transported to a burn center in Augusta, GA and are currently in critical condition. While the survived four other people on the plane were not so lucky. Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles all died in the crash. My condolenses go out to their families and prays go out to Travis and DJ AM.

Chamillionaire & Slim Thug Not Happy With The State Of Texas

This was not really a shock, but Texas Rap (mainly in Houston) has not been the same since 2005 when "Still Tippin'" first went national it would showcase three of Houston's Big Four (Slim Thug, Mike Jones, & Paul Wall). Chamillionaire chose his own lane to become the fourth. All of them had promising national debut albums, but soon after things would begin to slow. Both Slim Thug and Mike Jones have not released second albums due to label politics and causing their buzz in the national light to burn out. But Slim kept busy with his group Boss Hogg Outlaws, which would keep people talking. But Mike Jones seemed to disappear. Paul Wall and Cham would both release sophmore sets and squash their beef in 2007 into 2008 but both albums failed to do the numbers of the previous albums. So what is Texas/Houston to do?? What's Up With JD??

Well no one knows just yet. But everybody in the Island/Def Jam building seems content on keeping their mouths shut. and usually when there is silence the mess in still a mess and it may be true. So for right know lets leave it in the RUMORS column. Things must be hard for JD still seeing that just last week he shut down Cafe Dupri, and all of the allegations of unpaid workers. Helpfully there will not be any lawsuits headed his way and stuff can get straightened out. The hardest blow to him last week may have been the fact that Da Brat, someone he often consider his little sister, got three years in jail over assault charges. She is off the scene for a while and shows back up in the worst way. I would post a mugshot but i think that is degrading to her as a person. Brat is quite talented and hopfully she can get out a lot sooner on like good behavior or something. Last week did not have JD's name on it....

As far as the JD and IDJ situation I will update you as it happens...

Well it looks like one of my favorite Hip-Hop business moguls may be on the outs. After successfully running Café Dupri in the Buckhead area of ATL since 2005, Jermaine Dupri has decided to closes the health conscious café due to a dramatically changing climate in the US. But that's not all. Apparently there has been some frustrated employees who have been venting about not being paid....that may be a slight problem if I do say so myself. And there seems to be some problems with them getting paid...like bounced checks (ouch!). Here is the AllHipHop story:

And if it couldn't get any worse, it looks like JD might be getting his walking papers from Island/Def Jam. A source says do to failed sales of Janet Jackson's Discipline, Mariah Carey's E=MC2, ANND Jonta Austin's often delayed and eventually selved Ocean Drive, JD is just not making the cut or producing the numbers that IDJ wants (neglecting the fact that JD makes hits and that record sells have been down since 2006)...well this is not confirmed yet so I won't jump the gun on JD being made to walk the plank. I wonder what LA Reid and Doug Morris would have to say about it...hmmmmm...more so LA since he was the one that championed along with Jay-Z to get JD over to IDJ and LA and Dupri have always been cool. Well then...

This was the second of two major deaths this weekend. First Bernie Mac early Saturday morning and Issac Hayes on Sunday...tragic loses. Issac Hayes made great music that influenced lots of musicians, Hip-Hoppers included. His Son Issac Hayes III is a Hip-Hop producer so the legacy lives on....
